How can I get rid of Alstroemeria?

Alstroemeria has become really invasive - the fleshy roots seem to go so deep and have spread over a massive area and have infected other plants and bushes. What can I do? So far 9 sq metres has been dug and sifted for the roots. Is there an easier way to get rid of this pest?

How can I get rid of Alstroemeria?
Try spraying it with Roundup, it may need several applications to totally eradicate it. Or cut down the plant and then cover the soil with a thick layer of black polythene and leave for a year. (not a quick solution but it is organic). Good luck.
Reply:Cut the plant back but leave the stems about 2" above ground then spray with a weed and root killer. Alternatively, cover with a black sack or weed control material and if possible put large pot (upside down) over the plant to stop it getting light and air.
Reply:Spray with a weed killer such as Round up or tumbleweed which has the active ingredient; Glyphosate, their use is for general clearing to plant or as a spot weedkiller, several applications will be required.

The active ingredient is taken up by the foliage and transported down to the rest of the plant including the root system. There should be plenty of foliage so that the maximum amount of active ingredient is absorbed and it must be allowed to grow until it is well on its way to extinction. It could be 3 or 4 weeks before it is dead and may require further applications.
